Program Overview
The activity is an educational overview of medical cannabis in its current legal context in the US. Currently there are 2.1 million registered medical marijuana patients and there are an estimated 3.5 million patients using medical marijuana nationwide. The constantly changing legal environment in which cannabis can be used in the United States has resulted in confusion for both physicians and patients. Currently, 33 states have legalized medical marijuana and 10 states have also legalized recreational marijuana. Due to the lack of knowledge of the legality of discussing medical marijuana, physicians, nurses and pharmacists are hesitant to discuss with their patients. The lack of communication between the patient and physician can lead to the patient self-medicating with no guidance from a medical professional.

Dr. Gregory Smith has been in primary care practice for over 30 years. He is board certified in Preventive Medicine and obtained his MPH from Harvard University. He first trained on the use of medical cannabis in 2000 in California. He has written extensively on the subject, including his popular textbook, “Medical Cannabis: Basic Science and Clinical Applications” published in 2016, and more recently “Cannabidiol, CBD: What you need to know.” And most recently in 2019, “THCV: Appetite Killer.”
Dr. Kevin Smith has also been in primary care practice for over 30 years. He is board certified in Preventive Medicine and obtained his MPH from Yale University. He trained on the use of medical Cannabis several years ago and has been very active in educating physicians and other medical professionals.

Great Course. Learned quite a bit
great
Videos to verbally explain as well. Some of the slides were packed with information, so they were sometimes hard to read without having to re-read. However, the slides were not many, so with the completion of each module, the course seemed less ominous.
I feel I can apply the info learned here on a daily work basis

I’m still having trouble understanding how doctors cannot prescribe medical marijuana.
When I know they can give you a medical marijuana card but not a prescription. It’s also very frustrating to try and talk to doctors about medical marijuana. I now understand why they don’t talk to me. The legal implications for them are huge. I still don’t understand the medical marijuana card well. I’m also trying to figure out when you get a medical marijuana card then apparently the state is aware of your use. My question would be if you are on a work related accident case (L/I)and you use medical marijuana ,and the state is aware ( if you get a medical marijuana card )will this affect your case ?
I feel like I am able to discuss medical marijuana use in my CRPS support group. I feel very informed. Also wondering why so much Education is out there and not taught to healthcare providers. To me this should be required in medical school also nursing school. It is sad that research is limited. It appears that there’s a lot that can be done for cancer From medical marijuana.

I was satisfied with it and do not see any other area of improvement at this time. I was a little concerned that there was not much talk about pregnancy, child delivery, post partum depression, and C-sections.
Just keep updating the information.
As this was geared towards providers, I would have benefited from more in depth information on drug interactions
