MEDICAL MARIJUANA CONSULTANT RENEWALS
- Consultants will receive a renewal reminder notice from DOH six to eight weeks before the certification expires. Please keep in mind, this reminder service is a courtesy of DOH, not required for renewal.
- If you do not receive the notice within four weeks of your expiration date, please call 360-236-4700 or email customer service department.
- If you renew by mail, it will take about two weeks to update.
- If you deliver the payment in person (Tumwater Location), it will take about three to seven business days.
- Consultant certifications expire at midnight on their expiration date, which is the holder’s birthday.
- Consultants may renew their certification up to 90 days before it expires.
- To be clear, if a consultant’s certificate has not expired, they can simply click on the Medical Marijuana Consultant Renewal link under LICENSE RENEWALS to find out how to renew “with a renewal notice” or “without a renewal notice”.
CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (CE) (this is a link to the main CE website)
- The renewal notice should indicate the date the consultant will need to complete their continuing education for the following year.
- Example: The certificate may expire on 11/01/2016, but the consultant has until 11/01/2017 to complete the ten hours of continuing education (CE).
- Consultants must take 10 hours of continuing education (this link will take you to acceptable/not acceptable topics) every year. If you have questions about your continuing education, please call 360-236-4700 or email us for help.
- Please remember, continuing education hours will not be carried over from one reporting period to another. This is why it is important for consultants to pay attention to that date on their certificate.
- Also, up to 25 percent of certificate holders are randomly audited for continuing education compliance. Consultants should maintain records of continuing education completion for at least four years.
It is recommended that each person contact the department’s customer service at 360-236-4700 or by email at hsqa.csc@doh.wa.gov to see if their credential is marked for CE requirement.
If they have their contact information current with the Department of Health, they should receive a courtesy renewal notice a couple months prior expiration that indicates whether or not CE is required for renewal. You can also use the following link to search the database:

Please consider including information about the compassionate care act and how to properly create a recognition card for a compassionate care patient.
Super easy and convenient. Thank you!
It did have a lot of the same information as the first course so I was a little disappointed with that as I wanted to learn all new things. But other than that, easy to follow, good information in here. Thank you
Great course!
it was a nice refresh on how to make a card and had useful information on laws.
very informative, and appreciate adding new information to course
Still have exams that have updated information that is not included in the coursework. The only reason I was able to guess correctly was by educated guessing.
Very similar to the original consultant course I took last year. It was good to refresh but there should be some new/updated content as well. It is mentioned a couple of times that Jeff Sessions is the attorney general; this needs updated.

Add interactive/mix-n-match activities to force engagement.
Much improved over previous courses.
Glad the videos are gone!
I always appreciate a little refresher. 🙂
There were questions not covered in the material provided.
Question 11 in exam 6 was confusing. I chose True as my answer but it was false. The explanation I was given said the answer was True, but I believe you want it to say false….
Course material is clear, well organized, and refreshing.
One of the questions was totally wrong and I just had to guess an answer. Most things were so short I felt like it rushed through some parts while saying others multiple times. It was also very boring. Let’s get some videos in here? Some actually produced by Washington state for Washington state. Not just some phd talking for 20 minutes. Get a cannabis educator.
Needs more up to date information and more detailed clinical studies to provide knowledge to help patients better.
Night and day compared to a couple of years ago. Great!
There were some spacing issues on some of the slides.
Being forced to wait 24 hours if you failed a test is extremely bothersome.
There were a few questions through out the course, that within the same section, contradicted themselves. Possibly the way it is worded. Also some of the questions in the quiz have been updated with time, but the course DID NOT update the information.
Please allow people to manually enter birthdays when creating an account, having to click back through the calendar one month at at time for 30 years to get to my birthday was a bit annoying
Some questions are worded in a way that is confusing, and I encountered more than one question designed to trap someone into the wrong answer by wording things strangely. Consider editing all sections and eliminating things that are intentionally obfuscating.
update the packaging laws in course
Better than the training from last year, however your test questions could use some closer review. One that stood out to me was a questions from section 1 asking about how many states have legalized marijuana for medical purposes as of 2017. According to your texts provided it was 29. However that answer wasn’t available in the multiple choice section. Apparently the correct answer was 33, but that was based off of 2018 data, which was not in your text nor what the question asked.
Much better than the original version of the course I took two years ago!
I really appreciated that this class let me start and stop as needed to fit into my schedule.
Love the improvement from the last test I took. Thank you for Keeping us all updated.
Due to certain learning styles some consultants could benefit from more visual or audio methods opposed to just reading and testing. Instead of having us read complicated case studies why not turn that information into a relevant video that is comprehensible.
Split up that last one into chunks. Every piece of each section was 2-12 slides of material, except the last one. 115 slides on airlift. oof.
Mobile app would be amazing!!!
Significantly better than the original version for certification.
You guys did a good job! I actually learned a lot!
Great content and easily navigated. Thank you.
I liked the reading material over the videos last year that I completed for continued education last year. It was easy to read and very informative.
Thank you for having these courses available!
I would have enjoyed the course more and learned more if the training was interactive with intermittent knowledge checks. It is basically a self-read course with exams. But I am very a-predicative of the on-line self-paced option for CE as I have a very busy schedule and cannot attend webinars or regular classroom training.
THIS A GREAT PROGRAM.
Very well put together, and super helpful how its organized.
Loved every minute of this course! Definitely engaging and very well communicated!
Informative, direct and clearly formatted to the benefit of the student and reader. A+
I hate taking any kind of test but I enjoyed reading and learning everything in this course.
Some information was repetitive from prior year CE. Otherwise, thought the course was well put together and informative.
Someone definitely needs to edit this course, I found many grammatical errors. One being answers spelled asnwers. Also I selected True on one answer and it said i was wrong and that the correct answer was True. This made no sense and I was actually incorrect on the answer as I had misread the question. I feel that this is an important course to maintain my certification that I take very seriously and it would be nice if the course was looked over once again to correct these mistakes. Otherwise I enjoyed the course and definitely respect the tools it has provided.
Change it yearly so we learn new things!!!
It would be nice if somehow the PDFs were smoother to access. It was so piecey and a bit confusing however I loved the documents and appreciated the downloadable items- thanks! There were some errors, I should have documented most of them. Perhaps, with some of the questions that I got wrong- double check those facts? I would be happy to help out and do so if you’d like. Have a great day!
I appreciate the continuing education since more and more research is being done and laws are continuing to change. Thank you very much!
Helpful in many ways. I learned a few things.
