CB3 receptor

Definition: In 1999 a receptor fitting the G protein (GPR55) was discovered in the hippocampus, cerebellum, and later in the gastrointestinal tract, spleen adrenal glands, cancer cells, other vital parts and areas of trauma. Several cannabinoids, including CBD, bind to GPR55. This is important because CBD is not known to directly bind to other receptors in the ECS, rather antagonizing them in the presence of THC. Early studies suggest interactions of the CB3 receptor may control neuronal excitability which has huge applications for maintaining healthy brain functioning and better understanding how the ECS influences the health of body and mind.

Also known as: GPR55 receptor
