Definition: Psychoactive substances used in religious or spiritual contexts to induce alterations in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, or behavior. Cannabis has been used as an entheogen in the Indian subcontinent since the Vedic period dating back to 1500 BCE – 2000 BCE.
