Psychoactive

Definition: A chemical that acts on the central nervous system and alters brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness or behavior. Different from intoxication, where a person’s normal capacity to act or reason is inhibited. Both THC and CBD are psychoactive, crossing the blood-brain barrier and directly affecting the central nervous system with resulting changes in mood and perception. However, unlike THC, CBD is non-intoxicating and does not result in obvious cognitive alterations.
