Retrograde inhibition

Definition: The ligands of endocannabinoids that travel backward from the postsynaptic neuron to the presynaptic neuron. Unlike other receptor systems, information from the ECS can flow upstream from traditional nerve pathways, protecting the nervous system from hyperactivity, toxicity and controlling pain. When signals are extreme or overwhelming, retrograde inhibition uses cannabinoids to reduce impulses coming from the injury.
