Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. People who have PTSD have symptoms that may include a persistent, heightened experience of alarm and distress, as well as a failure of memory extinction processes to diminish the emotional impact of traumatic memories.
Nearly everyone will experience a range of reactions after trauma, yet most people recover from initial symptoms naturally. Those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD.
Did you know that women are twice as likely as men to develop PTSD? Did you know there is an emerging body of evidence demonstrating the important role the CB1 receptor and endocannabinoid signaling, in the extinction of adversive memories? Did you know that the anecdotal evidence provided by veterans who have had a positive impact on the severity of their PTSD condition with the use of medical marijuana, has fueled research for cannabis and PTSD?
In this online education course, Dr. Sue Sisely sits down with Medical Marijuana 411 to discuss her research and findings on how cannabis is helping veterans who suffer from PTSD. She also discusses Schedule 1 drugs, NIDA, and The Entourage Effect. Additional white paper research, definitions and statistics related to PTSD, CB1 Receptors, SSRI and Phytocannabinoids, Schedule 1 Drugs and The Entourage Effect will be presented. A downloadable infographic displaying brain scans and the impact of marijuana on the CB1 receptor is also part of the coursework.
