Malcolm X, Who Would be 86 Today, Helped Jazz Musicians get Marijuana

Malcom X, born El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, would be 86 today.

On what would be the 86th birthday of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, also known as Malcom X, community organizations like KPFK and Medical Marijuana 411 take a look back at the community organizer’s speeches and actions.

One of the coalitions Malcom X played a key role in building was the alliance between the jazz musicians and santa maria, also known as marijuana.

Louis Armstrong preferred cannabis to ignite his creativity, and help him relax after a show.  He also probably felt the anti-inflammatory properties relieve pain from playing all night, night after night.

This alliance also helped Malcom find a following that would later elevate him to celebrity status as Malcom’s message would resonate and reverberate not only though his message, but also through the music at the time.

And at that time, it is worth mentioning, prohibition made way for the rise of millions of dollars made through a corrupt system.

This would be hard to hide, even back then, from the millions of americans who would patron speakeasies nightly, as American Idol and Celebrity Apprentice weren’t around to distract our conveniently situated society, and then hear Malcom’s messages shine a light of truth on what is now known as a stain on the fabric that makes up this country.

Now that distractions are a plenty, it’s more important than ever to recognize the community organizers of today, and celebrate the heros of yesterday, ensuring a stronger community for tomorrow.

On that note, happy birthday El Hajj Malik El Shabazz!
